Nothing is more frustrating than queuing for a ticket and wasting valuable time. It is not uncommon for visitors to forego a tour of the palace‘s interior for this exact reason. Many people content themselves with exploring the other top sights and attractions such as the zoo, the Gloriette, the palace park, the Orangery Garden, the Children’s Museum, the Maze, the Labyrinth, the Crown Prince Garden and many more in a self-organised “Grand Tour” – and then fortify themselves in one of the restaurants on the park grounds.
But, as beautiful as sights such as the Orangery Garden and other attractions are: If you visit Vienna, you should not have to miss out on the main attraction, which is Schönbrunn with its magnificent rooms.
And you don’t have to!
You avoid long queues on our “Skip the Line” guided Highlight tour, as the tickets are already organized and our entrance time is booked in advance. Your adventure starts as soon as you arrive at our starting point (Schönbrunn Palace, Schönbrunner Schloßstraße 47, 1130 Vienna) at the agreed time. No waiting, no queuing, no delay.
Vienna is worth a trip and a visit to Schönbrunn Palace is not to be missed. When Schönbrunn Palace was expanded and rebuilt in its current form in 1754 as the summer residence of the imperial family, it was one of the most impressive palaces in Europe – and it still is today. Today, Schönbrunn can be visited on guided tours, exploring the historic rooms and other highlights of the imperial residence.
Join us and witness the magnificent sight for yourself. Travel back in time and feel like Empress Maria Theresa, Empress Elisabeth (Sisi), Emperor Franz Joseph or Emperor Franz Stephan of Lorraine for a few hours as we guide you through the impressive exhibition rooms and explore the beautiful Baroque gardens with you.
Your tour begins at the Ehrenhof fountain in front of the palace, where a guide will be waiting with a green umbrella. You will receive an overview of the history of Schönbrunn Palace, which is now a UNESCO World Heritage Site, as well as information about its most important residents, such as the life of Emperor Franz Joseph and Empress Elisabeth. Finally, our guide will take you on the “Highlight Tour” through the historic state rooms and reception rooms of the Habsburg dynasty.
A visit to Schönbrunn has a lot to offer. Whether in the magnificent interior or in the idyllic park with all its attractions and sights. Here are some highlights:
The Great Gallery with its magnificient interiors was the ideal setting for courtly events. From the middle of the 18th century it was used for balls, receptions and as a banquet hall for the Habsburg family. The high windows, crystal mirrors, white and gold stucco decorations on the ceilings form one of the most magnificent rococo halls to be found in Europe today. Since 1961, it has been known to many people around the world, because this is the place where John F. Kennedy met Nikita Khrushchev.
The Chinese Cabinets bear witness to the fondness and admiration for Far Eastern lacquerware, silk tapestries and porcelain from China, in the early 18th century. Around 1755 to 1760 the rooms were furnished with the most precious objects from East Asia. Both rooms served Maria Theresa as conference rooms. Secret conferences or meetings with her state chancellor Prince Kaunitz were also held in the Chinese Cabinets.
The second Antecamera, also known as Great Antecamera, in front of Emperor Franz Stephan’s flat was also a ceremonial hall for family events such as baptisms and birthday parties. The State Hall in Schönbrunn is most notable for the monumental paintings commissioned by Maria Theresa depicting an event that took place in 1760: the marriage of Joseph, heir to the throne, to Isabella Bourbon – a union that established peace with France.
The Blue Chinese Salon is steeped in history. The negotiations that led to the renunciation of the regency of Emperor Charles I took place here on November 11, 1918 – a day now known as Republic Day. Previously, the Blue Chinese Salon served as the council chamber of Emperor Francis I Stephen. The paper wallpapers with blue floral motifs on a yellow background, which give the room its name, presumably date back to its first furnishing as Franz’s council chamber.
This room takes its name from the precious furniture with black lacquer panels which came from the imperial manufactory in Peking. Originally it was the study room of Franz I Stephan. After his sudden death in 1765, it was remodelled into a memorial room by order of Maria Theresa. Vou will also witness the millions room, which served as Maria Theresa’s private reception room.
This room received its present furnishings in the time of Maria Theresa, around 1763. As typical Chinoise furniture, the blue and white carved wooden frames were intended to imitate porcelain, which was in great demand in 18th century Europe. Integrated into the wood panelling are 213 delicately framed gouaches painted by Maria Theresa’s children after designs by French artists Francois Boucher and Jean Pillement.
After finishing your tour of the interior of Schönbrunn, don’t miss the opportunity to witness the world’s oldest zoo on the magnificent grounds, the “Schönbrunn Zoo”. Other attractions not to be missed are the Pagoda, the Chinese House, the Dutch House, the English Garden, the French Garden, the Maze, the Palm House, the Orangery and many, many more.

Great free tour (paid through tips) Monalisa was an excellent guide, informative, interesting and amusing. It’s a great way to see the key sights and learn a little as you go. We especially appreciated Lisa’s passion when discussing the difficult topic of Nazi annexation.
Fantastic experience. Dieter our guide was exceptional. Though I had booked this walking tour i was a bit hesitant when I learned It was a two and a half hour walk. However I am so glad I went as Dieter is extremely knowledgeable - think of a history professor showing you the sights and explaining it's relevance to that period. He also provides sit down slots as he talks . I could have gone on an for another hour.
Excellent introduction to the complex story of Austria and Nazism My wife and I wanted to do a walking tour that would take us outside the usual tourist spots and give us more insight into life in Vienna before and during WW2. We also wanted to hear from a Viennese resident how Austrians were impacted by, participated in and have subsequently addressed Nazism in Austria.
Highly recommend! Excellent all around. Our guide Franz Josef (not the Emperor) was highly knowledgeable, engaging and humorous. I do not think that the Schonbrunn Palace can be sufficiently appreciated without a good guide. And we heartily endorse and recommend this particular tour service.
Breathtaking place, worth the money to visit. It was difficult to locate our group. Luckily the guide phone me and we were able to connect.
Excellent Best guide we have ever had! Entertaining, not too long, extremely experienced.
Fascinating tour with a very considerate guide. My daughter and I really enjoyed this tour. Dieter was clearly very knowledgeable on the subject and could answer any questions that were asked. It was a very hot and sunny afternoon and he made sure that we found shady spots before he would give us more information. He also made sure that we had plenty of stops near water fountains so we could refill our water bottles. Dieter was also concerned that everybody crossed roads safely and were aware and could avoid hazards from bike lanes. The headsets we had occasionally lost connection so we always tried to stay close to the guide so we didn't miss anything he was saying.
Schonbrunn Palace - history and Opulence combined Outstanding tour of a magnificent palace - if you love history this was a great tour. Guide was very knowledgeable and small group allowed lots of questions and answers . Highly recommended
Schonnbrunn Palace Tour Bridget was a fantastic guide- organised, funny, knowledgeable and efficient! My teenager, 21 year old and I, really enjoyed the tour and would highly recommend it to others.
Schönbrunn Palace Tour The Schönbrunn Palace tour in Vienna is spectacular. Very important to book ahead of time since it is likely the most popular tourist attraction in Vienna. Our tour guide Volker expertly related to us the fascinating history of the Hapsburg dynasty with a particular focus on Maria Theresia and Emporer Franz-Joseph who commissioned the building of the palace in the 18th century to rival Versailles. The opulence, beauty, decadence, and intricate craftsmanship on display are unrivaled. Easy to see how their excessive tastes and demands bankrupted Austria. 5️s for the tour and Volker!
A stunning must-see! Loved our tour through the stunning grounds and palace buildings of Schönbrunn. Was interesting to learn about the history of the palace and its matriarch, Maria Theresa. We literally spent all day exploring the vast gardens and enjoying all that Schönbrunn has to offer. A must-see when visiting Vienna.
Outstanding Tour Guide It was an extremely hot day. Tour started at 2:30p. We were a little worried about how this was going to work because it is a walking tour. Ziggy our guide was wonderful! She walked us to the shade and indoor spaces when possible. She pointed out where we could get water. She was absolutely brilliant and passionate ate on the topic and delivered a thoughtful history lesson on the dark issues that everyone understood. We bumped into her on the street after the tour. She recognized us and we had another chat she even brought us to the cathedral to show us one more thing. I cannot say enough about this tour. One of our favorites.
A must for Vienna visitors Andy was an excellent and knowledgeable guide. It was a very warm day, so he tried to find shady areas to tell us of the upcoming sights.
Great tour and worth going. Lisa was our tour guide. She was amazing. I highly recommend her. She is very knowledgeable, easy to understand and make it interesting and fun.
Interesting insight into Hapsburg dynasty Knowledgeable guide offering insight into Hapsburg dynasty
Excellent Tour. A Must Do! The guide was excellent. Informative and interesting without too much overload. Great overview from a guide who was passionate about her job.
Nice guided tour Our tour guide Bridget is knowledgeable and humorous, making the tour quite enjoyable. The garden is amazing- you can easily spend hours wondering around
Just AMAZING!!! This tour was unforgettable! The palace is amazing and well as the gardens. A must fo tour while in Vienna
An amazing look at Austrian history Great tour with a wonderful guide Tony. History comes alive in this stunning home. Gardens are worth a visit and definitely climb the hill for a fab view of Vienna.
An art and history tour with an enthusiastic tour guid It's a nice place to visit if you are interested in art and history. Our tour guide, Raffa, was a very enthusiastic guy who is really knowledgeable about the history. With, hist charming Italian accent, he threw some jokes here and that makes the history lesson more entertaining. He was also able to connect the whole tour together so that you feel it as a whole single story (not just separate rooms that we are visiting).
The visit so far was amazing and our tour guide Micheal was very good and explained stuff in a way we could understand. We would rate this 5 out of 5 because we learned a lot of things about Austrian history
Thank you, Dieter. Dieter did a terrific job of identifying significant sites and explaining the historical and social perspectives. He was clear, precise, and informative.
Understand the significance of historical events and their link to the present Dieter was a very knowledgeable and considerate guide. I appreciated his explanations of historical events linked with the places they occurred. Exceptional value for money!
Lots of walking, beautiful sites, beginner friendly Our tour guide was great, you could tell she didn't like the heat so the outdoor parts felt rushed but there is a lot to see and behold outside. The inside apartments are where she excelled, and Schonbrunn provides a lot to take in; the apartments and the history revealed were interesting for both a novice and an expert! Everyone especially first-timers should book this tour!
Great guide Andy, the guide was absolutely brilliant! He covered all the important pieces of the museum and clearly knows a lot about the history of art. Would definitely recommend.
Excellent guide-Andy! Andy (Andreas) is an excellent guide who is truly passionate about art and his work. Highly recommended!
Lovely tour Michael was an excellent guide from start to finish. He explained everything so clearly and made the whole experience incredibly enjoyable. His knowledge, enthusiasm, and friendly manner meant that everyone in the group could follow along easily, no matter their level of experience. You could tell he genuinely cared about making the tour memorable, and he created such a relaxed atmosphere that it was impossible not to enjoy yourself. I would happily join another tour with him again.
Great way to see Schönbrunn Andy was a great guide - very knowledgeable and helpful. He was very considerate and kept us all in the shade when he could (we went during the heat wave!). The palace is beautiful. The tour takes about 2hrs. The tickets are a little pricy but it is an expensive place to go to and the little extra you pay for the guide is worth it. It’s much better hearing it all from a person, rather than an audio guide.
